Water Plants: THERE ARE various types of water plants plant: water plants lilies, deep-water plants aquatics, floating aquatics, submerged plants, marginal plants and bog plants. water plants lilies, deep-water plants aquatics and, to a lesser extent, floating aquatics all provide cover for fish and insects, and also shield the water plants from sunlight, so helping to keep algae under control. Submerged plants and floating aquatics also play an important role because they feed off the nutrients in the water plants that algae need in order to live, and in this way they help to reduce their proliferation.
Once you have your quota of functional plants, use marginal and bog plants as decoration. Choose those that suit the design of your pool.
An informal pool should include a variety of plants that have been positioned at random. They should complement the surrounding area to make the feature look as natural as possible. Since the bog area helps merge the pool into the landscape, the bog plants should match groups of nearby plants. For formal pools it is best to select three or five specimen plants and place them in some kind of definite pattern.
Make sure your plants receive the correct amount of water plants bearing in mind that the heated environment will increase moisture loss. Also, certain types of potting mixture retain moisture better than others. In cold, cloudy weather your plants will need less water plants than in hot, sunny weather; keep a regular check on whether or not they need more water plants by feeling the potting mixture. When you are water plantsing plants, make sure you do not splash the foliage or leave puddles of the water plants on the Floor or benches as this will encourage fungal diseases.
Gently pull small plants, which adjust better to indoor temperature than large specimens, from marsh sediment. Marsh-type plants may also be purchased at aquarium supply houses; varieties may include Callitriche (water plants fennel), floating heart, hippuris (mare's tail), myriophyllum (parrot feather), Sagittaria sinensis (giant arrowhead), spatterdock, water plants hawthorn, water plants hyacinth, water plants lily, and water plants poppy. |
