Varied Outdoor Recreation: The recreation space and equipment, more amply provided than during World War I, permitted participation by a large proportion of the workers. The planning for recreation by cities, counties and states was greatly increased during the war. as was the number of facilities and recreation leaders. But in 1951 in many crowded urban areas, where delinquency and other social problems were acute, recreation centers had not been developed in proportion to the need for them.
It has broad streets, handsome parks, and extensive provision for varied outdoor recreation living and recreation, and the city is noted for its attractive homes, excellent hotels and trailer camps, and ample facilities for the entertainment of guests. The 33 miles of waterfront afford splendid beaches and there are many parks and pleasure grounds. The Municipal Recreation Pier extends a half mile into Tampa Bay, and an indoor pool and solarium are located on its approaches. The city has exceptional fishing, commodious yacht harbors and Boat basins, and fine golf courses.
With its system of parks and forest preserves, }r which Chicago long has been famous, and its pectator sports, the city has much to offer the ;eker of varied outdoor recreation recreation.
Parks and Forest Preserves. The Chicago park istrict owns 6,777 acres (2,740 hectares) of park md. Partially outside the city but within Cook Dunty are 51,000 acres (20,650 hectares) of ark and recreation area, administered mostly by le Cook county forest preserve district. |
