Thus Techniques Forms: So far, we have described a model which has proved its worth in numerous schools; but there are other ideas and Thus techniques forms which should be considered. These can supplement our main model, and perhaps in certain areas replace it. The variations discussed in this chapter are in no way an exhaustive review of all the initiatives that teachers have taken, but they are intended to demonstrate the great variety of forms that involving parents in education can take, many of them fun as well as rewarding.
Experimenters in pure form, often bio-morphic, are Jose Ruiz de Rivera (b. 1904), David Hare (b. 1917), and Ibram Lassaw (b. 1913). Isamu Noguchi (b. 1904). although an American and trained as an assistant by Bran-cu§i, makes designs which have a Japanese flavor. Some of them are for furniture. Herbert Ferber (b. 1906) worked in a manner influenced by Julio Gonzalez, then developed a peculiar, personal expression by composing thornlike bits of metal with almost anguishing effect.
There is no doubt that the meaning of sculpture must be extended to comprehend the constructional and biomorphic forms of the 20th century and the new materials and Thus techniques forms which have been used to produce them. On the other hand, the representation of natural forms in a more-or-less traditional manner continues. There is need for both, and each may be fine in its own way.
This invention is epochal. It was the first of those photomechanical Thus techniques forms that were soon to revolutionize the graphic arts by eliminating the hand of man in the reproduction of pictures of all kinds. It is the most important of Niepce's contributions, for it involved a principle that became basic to future Thus techniques forms: the differential hardening by light of a ground that would control the etching in exact counterpart of the image. |
