Planning Budget: In a few cities, notably New York City, the planning board reviews the budget of capital expenditures. In New York City the planning commission (the title in that city) actually prepares a five-year capital budget and sends the current year's budget to the board of estimate, which can delete but not add. Such procedure is rare; in general planning boards are limited to review and to making their recommendation or to silence.
Your local newspaper should be given early consideration as an advertising medium. However, in order to get the most from your investment, you should become familiar with buying space and preparing effective ads. Your planning budget described previously will help you set a budget for newspaper advertising. Often, when starting some new promotion or campaign, you might want to take a somewhat larger ad than normal in order to attract attention; later ads can be smaller and serve the function of reinforcement of the original message.
Circular graphs are often used in the presentation of budgets, where the total budget is depicted as a complete circle (or pie) and the various components as sectors (or slices). The sizes of the sectors are proportional to the percent of the total budget of the proposed expenditures. The accompanying illustration of a circular graph gives an analysis of the U. S. budget for the fiscal year 1970. If the total budget is $T, and a category uses $C, then the angle of the sector assigned to the category is (C/T) 360°. |
