Out A Garden: The inclusion of an arresting object within a small garden is an excellent way of detracting the eye from adjacent buildings and into the garden itself. The focal point in this garden is an ornate wrought-iron seat, which leads the eye down the garden. The rather austere rectangular lawn is surrounded by a mass of pretty, shrubby little plants, which together help to soften the overall look of the garden.
There are many ways of increasing the sense of depth in a garden. Vistas can be emphasized and "lengthened" by stressing the distant perspective. Eye-catching features can be used to draw the eye away into the distance, but there is no need to rely solely on the contents of your garden to do this. Make use of the landscape out a gardenside: let the out a gardenside world become the focus of your garden vista. If you are fortunate enough to have a garden with an extensive view, make the most of it. Use trees and shrubs to frame a glimpse of the scene beyond the garden.See Also Practical Garden Ing:Practical garden ing Gardening is Britain's number 1 garden monthly and abso¬lutely fun to have. Much of the information is as useful here as in England, and is a bit more realistic than that found in the expensive English garden books now flooding the market. The cost is about $18 a year but changes slightly with the exchange rates.
There are certain plants that instantly provide a garden with a ready-made theme. If you like the idea of a themed garden, perhaps you should try one of these. The advantage is that you don't actually have to plan very hard—once you've made the initial decision, the plants take over and do the rest for you.
THE MOST obvious theme garden, perhaps, is the herb garden. This not only looks lovely—so fresh and green—but it also smells fragrant and is always a delight to sit near or walk through. Most important of all, it also has a Practical garden ing use, particularly if you are a keen cook as well as gardener. Develop your interest in herbs and extend your collection to include some of the more unusual ones. Like your gardening, your cooking will soon know no limits.
On The Other Hand See That The Garden Is Mellower:It's true that the garden is mellower now, but what a show there was a scant three weeks ago!
Last winter my wife and I planned a new garden composed entirely of annuals: plants and flowers that had to sprout, grow, bloom, and set seed within one summer's time, or about 110 days in our region (Zone 5), though every year varies a bit. And the plants we chose had to be different from the familiar crowd; no marigolds, petunias, or common zinnias would flaunt their gaudy blossoms in this garden.
We checked seed catalogs both foreign and domestic, looking for the unusual either in flower, form, or color. In the end we chose some 30 species.
The framework of a garden is largely responsible for defining its gen style, but it is the special garden features like ponds and fountains, gardens, arches, and arbors that provide the finishing touch and stamp yo
garden with your own personal style. Which features you decide to use am you place them will depend to a large extent on how you use your garden.in place, these special features will give your garden its individual character. |
