Garden Design: FROM INDOORS, the view through the windows into the garden is at least as important as the view from any vantage point outside. Your garden design must therefore include views that look tempting from inside, from the rooms where you spend most time. If you are lucky enough to look out over open rural views or a fine cityscape, make sure the garden design blends with the background. A rustic garden-style design is much more suitable for a rural area than a modern design, in the same way as a modern design will look better in an urban area.
The straight edge of a hard surface can also be used in conjunction with curved flower beds and lawns within one design. The overall effect will be one of contrast: straight and curved lines, and squares and circles.
Paths should be used sensitively and for a reason. A path leading nowhere will not integrate with the rest of the garden. Use curved paths in an informal design and straight ones in a formal scheme. Rather than using a path to split the garden into two equal sections, consider running it along the shadier side of the garden instead. |
