low-voltage bulbs each Lighting As an alternative to main-voltage fixtures, you can install lights that run on a much reduced voltage via a transformer that can be concealed in the space above the ceiling. These lights are smaller and neater than main-voltage versions, and their halogen bulbs give a cool, white light that is perfect for highlighting features or providing decorative mood Lighting effects in* a bedroom. All you need do is choose the right transformer for "he number of lights you plan to install, and provide a power supply :o the transformer from a convenient connection point on the existing Lighting circuit.
Lights: Check every light on the boat. Be sure to have on board a stock of replacement bulbs.
Fuses: Test every fuse on the boat. Be sure to have on board a stock of replacement fuses.
Bilge pump: Test. Be sure that the switch and fuse are in the "hot" ungrounded side of the line.
Voltage: Measure voltage drop at the terminals of accessories such as blowers. When motor is energized, voltage must not drop more than 10 percent (only 3 percent for electronic gear).
The transformer is a device which has contributed a great deal toward solution of the a-c power transmission problem. It supplies high-voltage low-current power from a low-voltage bulbs each high-current source, or vice versa, without rotating or moving parts of any kind. (See TRANSFORMER.) Thus by use of transformers, power may be generated and consumed at reasonably low voltage, but transmitted from generator to consumer at high voltage.
