Q Continue working outward from the center tiles toward the edges until the Floor area is covered.
Q Lay border tiles last. Place the border Tile to be cut squarely on top of the last tile, then slide another Tile over it until it touches the Wall or baseboard. Mark a pencil line on the loose Tile below. Cut to this line and the Tile should fit exactly.
In the center of my imaginary terrace is the pool (40 feet square), lined blue Tile with blue tile, deep enough for a quick swim, and highlighted by a fountain with lead fishes on stone waves, squirting water high in the air. Scattered about would be tables and chairs designed by Edwin Lutyens—Gertrude Jekyll's partner who created houses to match her gardens—and a number of large terra cotta pots housing rare tropical plants.
First, cut an edge Tile to fit the space, and then push the Tile against the pipe and mark the center. Next, move the Tile against the Wall and mark the pipe center on the edge of the tile. Draw light pencil lines from both points and cut a hole where the lines bisect. Finally, make a slit in the Tile to allow you to feed it around the pipe.
