Large Fireplace: Walls are a fresh, clean white, but don't look stark because they're warmed up by all the wood. Stripped doors, floorboards and a chunky old Dresser bring mellow colour to the scheme, while touches of purple give the room a pretty lift. Painting the back of the fireplace a soft lilac has helped make more of a feature of the fireplace.
This simple fireplace gets a Moorish feel with beautiful blue and white tiles laid in its hearth. These add subtle colour and pattern to the room, without interfering with the old bricks and open shape of the fireplace. This is important. For a themed room to be successful, it needs to work with the room's original features, not ride roughshod over them.
It's not the most obvious of colour combinations, but here the balance of lilac and bright red works brilliantly. Knobbly fabrics and woolly accessories add texture, while a large fireplace, striking fireplace gives the room grand style. |
