Hold Flower Gatherer: The Baronet Cut and Hold Flower Gatherer makes cutting and holding a flower a one-hand operation. It's 31 inches long and per¬fect for pruning soft wood, gathering fresh flowers, and removing dead ones. Use it on vines and climbing roses.
The Baronet Firm Grip Weed Puller is designed to grip and pull out the most obstinate weed from cultivated land using one hand. At 34 inches it's invaluable for such work.
There need be no question in your mind about the market for good flower photography. One of the big slide film dis¬tributors has found flower fanciers the most consistent buy ers of all among slide collectors, even though the pictures offered are strictly of specimen flowers. These cannot possibly have the same appeal as pictures of flowers grown by the buyer in his own soil. The only flower fancier who is not an eager prospect for pictures of his blooms is one who has never seen a color slide transparency of a beautiful flower projected. A close-up of a lovely flower on a screen is a sight to make anyone, flower lover or not, gasp at its beauty.See Also Lavender-purple Flower:When Farrer wrote of Meconopsis his thoughts were of a very beautiful flower, a flower that had become, like edelweiss, a legend in its own horticultural time. For these blossoms are four-petaled (sometimes up to ten) poppies with many golden stamens and colors that run the gamut from sky blue to pale blue to deep purple and an occasional lavender. But they are flowers that, unfortunately, could be most po¬litely termed as 'difficult to grow."
C. medius blooms with lavender-purple flowers in October. Height is 4 inches and the leaves show up after flowering is finished. It is hardy from Zone 6 south.
C. orhroleucus starts in mid-October and if temperatures are a bit above normal, will continue to November. The flower is a delicate cream color with the throat stained with orange, and compared with other crocuses, the flower seems thin and papery. Where snows come early in the North C. orhroleucus will need a sheltered spot, but it's hardy from Zone 5 south.
On The Other Hand See Tubular Flower:The fragrant plantain lily (Hosta plantaginea) grows with lush, ribbed leaves, 10 inches long. In late summer to early autumn, 5-inch-long, white, very fragrant tubular flowers appear on 2-foot stems. At night the petals seem to spread and the perfume of honey fills the air. They are hardy in Zone 5 but may need a light covering on very frosty nights to protect the delicate blossoms. They make* excellent cut flower, lasting for days in a vase.
The moon flower has an entry all to itself on page 96.
Ceramic and metal microfilters are also available for more extreme duties as either flat sheet or tubular forms with pore ratings between 0.1 and 8 /im or 0.2 and 5 ^m, respectively. Typical industrial microfilters are tubular monoliths similar to those used in ultrafiltration which are capable of holding up to 108 tubes (see Figure 7.37 and Section 7.6.2.1).
A microfilter typically operates with fluxes <1 m3 m~2 rT1 and pressures below 500 kPa. Due to the processing of larger particles the gel formation observed in ultrafiltration is not generally seen in microfiltration and relatively high pressures can sometimes be beneficially employed. |
