Grain Plants: In addition to the use of the grain kernels as >od, the plants may be used as fodder and in lage. Grains are used in the production of vari-us alcoholic beverages and for making industrial Icohol. Straw, starch, fibers, sugars, oils, and umerous other products are obtained from grain srnels or grain plants. A large proportion of le grains produced, especially corn and oats, is jd to livestock on farms where the grains are rown.
GRAIN ELEVATOR, a building or complex of buildings equipped for handling and storing grain. The term "grain elevator" is sometimes used to denote only the automatic equipment used for handling the grain. Grain elevators are used primarily for storing wheat and corn. They came into extensive use shortly after the middle of the 19th century and now are common sights at railroad junctions throughout grain producing areas, grain markets, major lake ports and seaports, and grain milling ( flour) centers.
Naming the Deities.—In general the Roman gods were named from their qualities, functions, or actions. Often the primitive sense of the name is exemplified in the deity's future actions. An excellent example is Ceres (Gr. Demeter from Gcmcter:
