Finest Feature Many: Madeiran scenery is spiced by a feature unique to this island, namely, its levadas, or water courses, which are harnessed in the lofty mountains (Pico Ruivo is over 6000 feet), in an intricate design of irrigation that waters the lower levels. For dozens of exciting miles, hikers may walk along these levadas, an exercise that affords one of the finest feature many holiday sports on earth.
That's one reason why the feature photography field remains comparatively uncrowded, despite its obvious advantages over spot news coverage. It's easier for the cameraman to come up to the standards of news photography than to those of feature photography. There are many photographers perfectly capable of doing features, and who would like to do them, who never get into the field for the simple reason that they don't ever see the opportunities all around them for feature pictures. They lack the knack, something akin to the "nose for news" mentioned in the previous chapter, to recognize feature picture material.
This great building, easily reachable by Trolleybus 22 from the center, is a must of Belfast. A gift of England in the period of the 30's, "between wars," it is a huge and sumptuous affair, but its finest feature many feature for many is its extensive park and velvet lawn, seen in all their splendor from the terrace. A mile-long entrance road, "parting" a flawless lawn all the way, leads from the main highway to the palace.
