This powder is simply microscopic scales of various shapes and sizes which determine color pattern the color pattern of these insects. Because of these scales, the name Lepidoptera, meaning scale wings, has been given to the order to which butterflies and moths belong.

The model's mesh consists of 500 tri-color LEDs controlled by a PIC microprocessor. Also imbedded in the model's mesh are photosensors which determine color pattern the brightness on them and give off a color according to the energy color scheme. This model was created for the exhibition "New Spanish Architects" at the MoMA in New York, Feb 2006.
