Commercial Cultivation Practiced: Production and Processing.—Ramie grows best in a warm, moist climate, with winter temperatures above freezing, and at altitudes of less than 1,000 feet. Propagation is by cut pieces of rhizomes. Depending upon the climate and cultivation methods, the first Commercial cultivation practiced crop may be harvested nine months after planting. Thereafter, with favorable climatic conditions and suitable cultivation, a crop may be harvested every 60 or 70 days; this means three or occasionally five crops a year.
