Botanical Gardens: 6. Palaces and Gardens Denmark's castles form a very notable com¬pany. They mostly date from the 16th century and are almost invariably surrounded by beautiful parks and gardens. In the capital there are Rosenborg and Frederiksberg, supplemented gardenwise by the Royal Horticultural Gardens and the city's splendidly landscaped Botanical Gardens. Other castles in Zealand are Hiller0d's Frederiksborg (already mentioned), not to be confused with Frederiksfcerg, and Naestved's Gis-selfeld, while beyond the confines of Zealand at least seven leap up in the mind to be counted.
6. Palaces and Gardens Norway does not go in for chateaux, nor does it even have a Norwegian Versailles, though it does, of course, have a royal palace in the capital (not open to visitors), and in Trondheim it has the Governor's Residence (Stiftsgarden), which is used by the king on his visits to that city. Parks and gardens, however, are plentiful and in Oslo, Frogner Park (Vigeland) and the 56-acre Slottspark (Palace Park) are of great interest, as are the Botanical Gardens, in the suburb of T0yen and the 372-acre Ekeberg Woodland Park.See Also Garden Statuary:GENERALLY SPEAKING, decorating your garden statuary is a matter of personal taste and your choice of ornament will create a garden statuary unique to you. Whatever you decide on, it should look good in its own right and be appropriate to the setting, either standing out as a focal point or merging with the surroundings. Choose it carefully: one well-positioned statue will look far better than several pieces dotted around at random.
There are many different Ornaments to consider, including statuary and other sculptures, urns and containers, and sundials and bird feeders. Topiary, the art of carving hedges into a variety of shapes, can also be seen as a type of garden statuary Decoration but it is a specialized skill.
Most sculpture benefits from a backdrop such as a hedge or wall, perhaps set against a niche for more of an impact. Some look better raised above the ground on plinths or at the top of a flight of steps. Urns and the more decorative containers also tend to look their best when raised above ground level, standing on some kind of pedestal.
STRESA: The Grand Hotel et des lies Borromees is the sumptuous "grand marshal" of this Lake Maggiore resort.
SYRACUSE: The Grand Hotel Villa Politi is in a suburban garden statuary, com¬plete with antique statuary, while on the ancient island part of this once-Hellenic city is Hotel degli Stranieri, directly above the Fountain of Arethusa, named for the nymph who fled here to escape the attentions of the river god Alpheus.
On The Other Hand See General Garden Ebooks:Our garden measures some 20 by 20 feet, but any size that the gardener has the strength and time to tend will do; even a tiny plot can produce an amazing number of blossoms. The cutting garden should be conveniently located, near the house, and near a watering outlet, and if possible, removed from the general garden ebooks view of the home landscape so you never worry about how it looks, especially after you've cut into it. Ours is in the southeast corner of the vegetable patch, where it gets plenty of sun. And since we walk there every day to check on the tomatoes or pick fresh arugula, we always notice the freshest flowers.
The idea of a garden that bloomed at night first crossed my thoughts when I was an editor/reporter for a small weekly newspaper. Newspa¬pers start to function very early in the morning, and fingers must fly over typewriter (or computer) keys while many suburbanites are just spooning sugar on their cornflakes. So by the late afternoon when I arrived home there was little time or energy to work in the garden and the time that was spent went into weeding, watering, and general garden ebooks upkeep. Then, before exhaustion could take over, it was too dark for more. |
