Around Country Covers: Can you produce color transparencies which are the equal of those you see reproduced on the covers of the magazines displayed at your corner drugstore? And would you like to see some of your own pictures adorning these covers?
If you can answer "Yes" to these questions, then your course is clear. You should simply carry on and try your luck with the magazine covers. There is nothing, no mysterious requirement, no barrier whatever, to stop you. Anyone who can produce pictures as good as those currently being used can sell them. In that respect, the shooting of magazine covers is just about the most democratic calling of them all. It is a great game in which all can compete. The lists are wide open to photographers with ability.
The climate, notoriously variable, is at least temperate. The food, traditionally prepared without imagination, includes some of the best meats, seafoods, and vegetables in the world. Distances are short and hotels numerous. Air services connect some of the principal cities; tarred roads are universal but often jammed; and the world's most complex railway system densely, but not always punctually, covers the whole around country covers.
