Apple Trees: Among the insects which feed upon the quince are several borers, scale insects, caterpillars, plant-lice, etc., which are found on other fruit trees, especially apple treess and pears. These may be controlled in the same way. (See apple trees; PEAR; INSECTICIDE.) The quince curculio (Conotrachelus cratcegi), a broad-shouldered snout-beetle of American nativity, lays its eggs in the fruit in early summer. It may be controlled like its relative the plum curculio. (See PLUM). Several so-called plant diseases common to the pear and apple trees are sometimes reported upon the quince. They have been combated in the same way as on the other fruits.
Consult Bailey, L. H., Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture, 3 vols. (New York 1928-1942); id., Manual of Cultivated Plants, rev. ed. (New York 1949).
In a rustic garden the trees should be fruit trees wherever possible, or at least blossom trees of some kind. apple treess, pears, plums, and cherries will all help to create the right atmosphere, as will nut trees such as hazel or almond. If there is space for a large tree, a Walnut might do.
TD.(Also laughing) Oh no, silly Nana, of course it's not a potato!
Of course, that was the first time Coralie had heard anyone use the expression 'If you say so' and because she was concentrating on peering out to sea, she did not fully hear what I had said.
In another example, a two year old was looking at an alpabet book with her mother.
M.Oh look, an apple trees. apple trees begins with 'a' (sounded out). (In a chatty tone) What d'you think orange begins with?
