17th-century Garden:

17th-century Garden Wax silhouettes. In relief, usually showing portraits in profile, some¬times clothed in lace and jewelry. Popular in 17th century Germany and 18th century France and England.

It is a multiple establishment in a lovely park at the edge of the city, comprising a two-floored Cupola Hall, a Colonial Room, whose walls are decorated with 17th-century garden Amer¬icana (!), a de luxe cocktail lounge and a terrace garden—with six tennis courts in the foreground. In all, it can take care of 1400 diners at once. The dining rooms are open evenings only (from 6 o'clock), except on Sundays (from 2). The Fish Croft is a gay place and sometimes patrons have a wee bit too much. To aid them, a sign on the Wall reaches the ultimate in tact: "From here you can be driven home by one of our chauffeurs, if you desire."

See Also Grill Garden:

According to the designers, the completed house was a hit with the owners. "We've heard great things from them," said Christine Santana and Jenifer Manning of Santana Interiors, South Pasadena. "They gave their blessing." Hillary Wolfe is a member of our Social Scene team. One of the most inspiring spaces at the Pasadena Showcase House of Design is the Kitchen Pavilion and Grill Garden.

Cook has an office in the hotel. For cheerfulness in public rooms I know of no hotel lounge to sur¬pass the big skylighted Winter Garden, and for fine food nothing in Spain can surpass the Palace's air-conditioned parrilla (grill room). This hotel is still the largest in Madrid (likewise in all Europe) and each of its ap¬proximately 600 rooms and baths is differently decorated. Most of them kve extra paneling to insure quietness.

On The Other Hand See Private Garden:

At the back of the house is usually where the private garden, the terrace, outdoor living room, play area and so on are lo¬cated. Livability and usefulness should be stressed here. This part reflects you and your family and their way of life as surely as does the interior of your home. If there are children, play space for them may be included. The private area should be screened discreetly to provide reasonable privacy and block undesirable views.

With the larger lot, say one more than 50 by 100 feet, it is different. The private part of the garden may then include not only the outdoor living room adjacent to the house, but areas that extend beyond it to the rear and the sides. These may fea¬ture special gardens, such as ones devoted to roses, rock gardens, herbs, cut flowers and vegetables as well as naturalistically landscaped areas with trees, shrubs and perhaps spring bulbs and other flowers growing beneath them. Now the private area consists of more than one room.
